Dear history project,
I am a nearly 73 year old women, in relatively good health, living in a less populated area in the county who has been following the state guidelines for COVID-19, wearing a mask when out and about, social distancing, making “essential trips only” primarily for groceries, doctors visits etc. I frequently take long walks in my neighborhood, often running into neighbors, some of which I have known for many years. Recently, I have noticed that people are becoming impatient with staying home, wearing masks, and have become somewhat complacent about following the guidelines. Recently I have had discussions with long-time friends that have become annoyed with me for insisting on wearing a mask, especially if traveling in the same car together (one person sitting in the back seat with the windows open), or going on a walk together. Or another neighbor, a retired intensive care doctor, advocating for opening schools and businesses and allowing herd immunity to happen. There is so much conflicting information out there that I find it not only confusing, but also disturbing that I can feel in conflict even with people that I have known for years. These are strange times.
